I’m not my…my injuries are healed now but I still don’t remember things, (Octavia.E.Butler, Fledgling, 2005),
Dyson Gallery, London, UK, (2018) and Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich, Switzerland, (2019)

30 minute performance, metallic body paint, survival blankets, clay, oil

I’m not my…my injuries are healed now but I still don’t remember things (Fledgling, Octavia.E.Butler, 2005), brings together a polyphony of voices, and fragmented narratives channeled through pedals and mics. Sibungu leaves a trace of the characters she embodies behind and under foot — sunken into survival blankets draped over clay. The performance takes inspiration from the opening scenes in Octavia.E.Butlers (2005), vampire novel; Fledgling, Libita explores a spirit coming into a body and the poetics of survival that emerge.

First presented at the Dyson Gallery, Royal College of Art, with CCA for the group exhibition; 4717, the performance was commissioned along with 3 other artists who were invited to respond to a work from the LUX collection. 4717 was broadcast via a video live-stream, the link remaining link was acquired by LUX as their 4717th work, making it the first live moving image work in their collection.
