Aqua Alta, Diaspora Pavilion, 57th Venice Biennale, (2017)

Installation comprising; 16’ looped stereo-audio, latex, resin, polystyrene, rocks, silt, paper, fine-fluted rubber, (dimensions variable)
Aqua Alta is a sprawling installation made of black sculptures, on latex and rubber materials which cover a layer of silt from the Venetian lagoon. Alongside this mass, are a medley of audio-works situated across three sites in the Pavillion. These feature epic operatic harmonies and rhythmic breathing exercises performed by Soprano, Anne Fridal, and Tenor, Ronald Samm from the Black British Classical Foundation. The words ‘Up - Rising - Up’ repeat and cascade down intermittently from the stairwell, whilst ‘Where - Now - Where’ echoes out from the balcony at noon everyday in chorus with the bells of Venice.
Untitled, 20 minute performance, (4’32” excerpt)
This performance was part of the closing event for the Diaspora Pavilion, a major group exhibition of 12 artists and mentors presented with International Curators Forum, in partnership with University Arts London. Supported by Arts Council England and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
