Somerset House, London, (2019)

Installation view (dimensions variable), 20-30 minute performance, cymbals, hi-hat, snare drum, 26 x screenprint on paper (29.7 x 42 cm each), screenprint on t-shirt, lithograph (29.7 x 42 cm, edition of 6)
A collection of cymbals, and a snare drum stand in front of a colour hue and back drop, made from an assemblage of screenprints on paper, textured with stone rubbings. The lithograph — central to the installation, was made and presented during Libita’s residency at the Bag Factory, Johannesburg, in 2018. Here at Somerset House, Womxn of colour percussionists are invited to activate the installation in response to the title through improvisation twice a week for the duration of the exhibition.
Revealing the Crisis of Testimony that Arises When the Past is Not Contained, takes its title from a passage within; Exiles, Diaspora’s, and Strangers by Kobena Mercer (2008).
Presented within the group exhibition, Get Up Stand Up Now, celebrating black creativity in Britain for the past 50 years and beyond, featuring 100 artists, curated by Zak Ove’. The lithograph edition has been produced with Joe Leshoka LeGate at LL Editions, South Africa. The lithograph exhibited has been acquired by the Government Art Collection (2020).
